Early in life when I was very young I learned how to cover my butt. I think that skill has been the most important I have ever learned. If you would like to read more about how I do so, please click on the Cameo of the Mother/Baby below.

SMART PEOPLE WEAR DIAPERS!

This page presents my disclaimers and other butt coverings. Usually, these things are full of it – butt, I hope you find mine a little more flowery.

YOU – ARE A PRIVATE PERSON

I will not sell my client list, link to other sites, recommend local professionals etc. OBRN Advisor.com is not a forum site or a pool for the next nurse to fish through. Your relationship with me – is between you and me. I will send materials to the e-mail address you provide on the subscription and no other. Of course, I am not responsible if China, North Korea, or some other bad actor takes an interest in you and chooses to hack your account.

I’m sorry, and it should be obvious, that as a nurse, I do not know every doctor, nurse, midwife, doula, or other professional working in the field of Obstetrics. I do not know the reputations of your local hospitals. Because of these limitations, I cannot address any of your questions or concerns regarding the providers you, and those who care for you, might choose. I can answer general questions such as: “What is the difference between a midwife and a doula?” I can not tell you that a particular provider is better than another.

ME – I AM NOT A FRAUDSTER

I will not ask you for your social security number, your Medicaid or Medicare account numbers, health insurance, or other financial information. I will not ask you for your home address, your phone number, or the name of your first pet.

If you discover that my website or anyone claiming to be associated with my website has sought this information, please tell me or your local Police Organization as soon as possible.

I do not have employees, bosses, partners, sponsors, or other such commitments.

The only financial information I need from you is whether or not you are current on this month’s bill. I plan to use a service such as Stripe to collect your payments. I probably will not even have your credit card account number.

ME – A LIMITED ADVISOR

Information I provide women will be built on symptom-based triage protocols, appropriate standards of care, and communication requirements as defined in AWHONN and ACOG literature. My advocacy will be developed from more than 50+ years of experience with these materials and their daily application.

I will not act outside my professional scope of practice as a licensed registered nurse as defined by the State Board of Nursing for my state of licensure. [ USA, Texas | Please be aware that while my license provides for my legal right to practice health care in over 40 states and territories, it is not a blanket credential. I may not be licensed in your state or nation. It is your responsibility to comply with the laws of your location. There should not be any legal issues in this regard as I am going to provide information – not health care.

ME – I DO NOT DO SKYPE …

A major encouragement for my decision to start OBRN Advisor.com was an incident where a patient tried to manage an emergency delivery with her doula during an early morning phone call. That patient should have known how to respond in a safer way before it became a life threatening emergency.

Nursing is a very visual profession. I will not be able to see the concerns you may want to ask me about. There is no safe way to assist you over an internet or phone connection during an emergency. While I can tell you about issues and emergencies common to pregnancy, there is no safe way to declare that something you are experiencing – right now – is an emergency without standing next to you to do so.

The opportunity for a situation to turn into an emergency is almost infinite. I can NOT prepare you for every possibility. The best I can, and will, do is to provide information about common emergencies that could occur at your stage of pregnancy and how you may avoid them. My inability to provide effective emergency assistance, and my unwillingness to try to do so, is why I may take up to 48 hours to reply to your e-mails.

Again, I can NOT tell you that you are having an emergency “right now’ and that you should do “this or that’ in response to it. However, with knowledge before a commonly faced incident occurs, you should know that it is happening – if it does – and how to respond to it before it becomes an ‘emergency.’

For instance, when certain things happen, you should call a local hospital’s OB department and speak with their triage nurses. You should know their contact information long in advance of needing it. Do NOT call a digital doula regardless of how much you paid her to ‘be there!”

WE – OTHERS WILL JOIN US

There will be times when I will write that you should seek the opinion of a doctor, nurse, or other healthcare provider in your area. This is not a form of diagnosis or treatment. I simply want you to address the question with someone who can see your body and assist you as they feel appropriate. So, if I write that you should see a doctor – please, do NOT get scared. I simply want you to see a doctor with that issue.

How should I address the issue of clients under age 18? Many of the women I have helped during my career were young. If anyone really needs someone to ask questions of, it is a teenage mother to be. Also, teenage boys should know more about their needs and safety. So, how do I help the group that needs it the most? My approach will evolve, but I will start by requiring teenagers who seek my advice use their parent’s e-mail address for the account. Other issues are for their family to sort out. However, there is no way for me to verify a client’s age. If the client’s stated age is under 18, I will try to be tactful, but my answers will be honest and medically accurate. An exception to this rule is the young woman who is already pregnant. Many states consider a pregnancy to be an emancipating event. Being pregnant often means that she is an adult. I will treat her as an adult and work to ensure her privacy as an adult client under the HIPAA laws. The e-mail account she uses on her subscription will be assumed to be hers and private for her.
